| Four
Ways To Make Your Website
Dollars Worth More :
Promotion
If
people can’t find your
website, they can’t get to it.
Choose a URL (this is a
technical term for the name of
your website) that’s easy
to remember, and then publish it
everywhere ... on
business cards, letterhead, ads,
newsletters. Make it as common
as your address or phone number!
Plus, make sure your site is
registered in lots of search
engines and directories, so
folks who don’t know the URL
can still find it!
Speaking
of search engines, be wary of
any organization that promises
you top rankings if you'll only
send them some money. Top
search engines, like Google,
Yahoo, Alta Vista, and MSN, use
sophisticated algorithms to rank
their pages. To further
complicate matters, these
algorithms change frequently, so
even if you cracked the code
this week, the code will be
different next week.
Better to spend your time on
building quality content and
using naming conventions, meta
tags and title names that
accurately reflect the content
of your page. Try too many
tricks and attempts at search
engine optimization to get into
search engines and you may end
up being banned from them
instead.
Something
else to consider: if you have
considerable content within a
particular niche and wish to
sell advertising, you might want
to try Google Adsense.
Google will send you code to
place on your site and ads
pertinent to your content will
be displayed on your
website. If a user clicks
on the ads, Google sends you
money. It is not unusual
for websites to generate
hundreds, and even thousands of
dollars in revenue from Google
Adsense per month. If
interested, click on the button
on the right and find out more.
If you
wish to advertise on Google,
look at their "adwords"
program; it enables you to buy
advertisements for your products
that display on other sites.
It has
been our experience that other
"affiliate programs"
such as those offered by
booksellers and other merchants
like Commission Junction or Link
Exchange are of limited value.
